I was horrified by the whole situation,” said Donny Greene, the director of Outreach for Feed Louisville. On Sunday evening, police were called to the Shively Animal Clinic and Hospital on Dixie Highway. While investigators have not said exactly what led up to the incident, police me a verbal altercation turned physical, and 21-year-old Trent Taylor was shot and killed. Police say although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears the shooting could have been in self-defense. Victor Jett says his business, Jett’s Auto Repair, has operated next to the clinic for more than four decades. He says now he’s thinking about safety. “Safety for my mom, my guys who have worked here because you just don’t know,” said Jett, “It could have very well been us. I have never had anything like that happen here, fortunately.” The Shively Animal Clinic has now reopened for its customers following Sunday evening’s shooting. People bringing their pets say they’re saddened and shaken by what happened. Greene says his organization depends on the clinic. He says the clinic provides affordable care for pets and their owners, and it is a vital part of the city. “I feel awful someone has lost their life. I mean, people were hurt. Irreparable damage was done to our community,” said Greene. The Shively Police Department says there will be no arrests at this time, but all parties have been accounted for. Once the investigation is complete, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will be consulted regarding any potential prosecution. A statement from the Shively Police Department says, “Additionally, there have been posts circulating on social media outlets speculating and accusing an individual named ‘Jayme Bond’ as being the person who killed the victim. This has resulted in Ms. Bond receiving threats to her life. The Shively Police Department can confirm that Ms. Bond is in no way involved in this incident.”
