Rescues struggling to house rejected rabbits as feral bunny boom spreads across Metro Vancouver

Gino, 25/10/2025
Some rabbit rescues in Metro Vancouver say they’re at capacity as shelters grapple with the fallout from pandemic pet purchases. That’s caused a consequent explosion in the feral rabbit population, operators say, with many owners simply releasing their pets into the wild after finding they no longer have time to care for them. The bunny boom is also affecting shelters themselves as they try to expand to cope with demand, with some falling foul of municipal regulations as a result. One long-running shelter, run by Vancouver Rabbit Rescue and Advocacy (VRRA), is now at risk of being shut down unless…

Gino, 20/10/2025
CNN — Cinnamon, a goat, and Felix, a 1-year-old bulldog mix, are an unlikely duo, but best friends, nonetheless. The four-legged friends enjoy spending time together – eating, playing, and sleeping. And now, they can continue those things together at their new forever home. The pair was brought to Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, on March 13 by the City of Raleigh Animal Control for temporary housing, according to the shelter. On March 25, Friends of Wake County Animal Center, a non-profit organization that provides support to local animal shelters, shared the story of the unique encounter…

Gary Percy was walking seven-year-old Reign in Bedlington’s Gallagher Park when the springer spaniel was stabbed in the eye with a stick on March 9. Mr. Percy said Reign had run ahead and he heard him “screaming out and shaking his head”, before finding he had been injured by a spear-like stick protruding from the ground. He added: “He had his back to me and I didn’t realize but the stick had gone into his eye. The vet…

Editor’s Note: Urmee Khan is a London-based journalist with more than two decades of experience in TV, print and online media. She is founder of Rakhana, a media consultancy. The views expressed in this commentary are her own. Read more opinions at CNN. CNN — It would be easy to dismiss French bulldogs, with their squidgy, cartoon faces and small squat bodies, as little more than a handbag accessory. Some people might even see them as little more than a conversation piece affording the pretext to gossip about a favorite music star or actor. And no one can deny the…
